","JOB_SOURCE":null,"JUSTIFICATION":"In order to address the changing needs of teachers in today’s schools, we have worked to revise the Elementary Education program with Reading and ESOL endorsements.
\n\nWe have replaced EDF 3150: Learning Theory and Student Development (1 credit) with EDF 3214: Student Development and Learning Principles (2 credits). Both courses were being offered in the College of Education despite similar MLOs, EDF 3214 will now be offered across multiple pathways. Additionally, we have added a 2-credit course focused on the importance of effective collaboration and communication with families and other stakeholders, as this was a need within the program (EEX 4753: Collaboration with Families and Communities in Education- proposed), which will also be shared across multiple pathways.
\n\nWe have also streamlined the Curriculum course and the Management course (EDG 3410 will be replaced by EEX 4604) to better reflect the needs of all learners, and these courses will be shared with the Exceptional Student Education certification pathway. Lastly, we have added a course on Differentiated Instruction (EEX 4294) to ensure that our program completers are adequately prepared to meet the needs of all learners in their classroom. We also adjusted the credits in EDE 4226 from 4 credits to 3 credits, as this more accurately reflects the workload in that course.
\n\nWe removed EDE 4304: Integrated Mathematics and Science (4 credits), as a standalone math course is embedded within the program and adjusted practicum content (EDE 4943), to incorporate a STEM focus. Lastly, we adjusted the credits in the final semester to better reflect the workload. The final internship (EDE 4940) was reduced from 12 credits to 9 credits and the Reading Practicum (RED 4940) was increased from 1 credit to 3 credits. This ensures that students have the necessary 12 credits to receive financial aid during their final semester.
\n\nStudents currently enrolled in the program will continue to follow their program pathway and we will offer the necessary coursework to ensure they meet their program requirements.
