The Medical Equipment Repair Certificate is designed to allow students access to entry level positions in the field of medical device repair. Students will be prepared to work for Medical manufacturers, medical service providers, and consultants. This certificate focuses on the electronics and device knowledge necessary to perform basic troubleshooting and repair. Students will practice their skills in the biomedical engineering technology laboratory that includes several different types of medical devices.

The committee is comprised of medical manufacturers, medical service providers, consultants, and college staff. Industry leaders in the St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay communities have immediate need for technicians. However, the time it takes to earn a degree can be a barrier for hiring for many companies to find talented individuals to meet their workforce needs. The proposed solution is to create a certificate that would allow students to obtain employment sooner by providing a credential that focuses on the minimum requirements needed to enter into the career field. Additional benefits of adding this CCC include reducing the costs for students to obtain their first academic credential. In addition, students who earn the CCC and are hired will benefit because they would become eligible for tuition reimbursement if they choose to move forward with an A.S. degree.
